Algarve vs Bali: Where to Do Your Yoga Teacher Training
July 16, 2026
Bali is the default Instagram answer. The Algarve is the practical European answer. Both can be excellent. They solve different problems.
Travel and time
Bali: long-haul flights for most Europeans and Americans, jet lag into intensive days, longer total trip cost when you add stops and visas.
Algarve: short-haul from most of Europe, same time zone for much of the EU, easy to add a few recovery days without a 24-hour transit.
Cost reality
Bali tuition can look cheaper until you add flights, insurance, and the fact that many packages bundle housing of uneven quality. Portugal mid-range programs often land lower on total trip cost for EU residents once flights are honest.
See our Europe price guide for 2026 ranges. Boutique Lagos programs sit in the mid band with small groups rather than resort-scale cohorts.
Teaching environment
Bali: huge YTT industry, huge variety, and uneven quality. Research the lead trainers, not the beach photos.
Algarve / Lagos: smaller market, fewer schools, easier to inspect the actual studio and teachers before you pay. Heat Lagos runs trainings in a working infrared boutique studio, which means you practice teaching in a real class environment rather than only on a retreat mat.
Who should choose which
- Choose Bali if you want a long tropical sabbatical and have verified a high-quality school
- Choose the Algarve if you live in Europe, want less travel friction, and prefer a boutique cohort
- Choose a short specialty (like SCULPT) in Lagos if you are already certified and need a hireable format fast
Neither destination makes you a good teacher by itself. Contact hours, feedback, and practice teaching do.
