You've chosen your yoga teacher training Portugal program. You've booked your flights. Now comes the practical question: where am I going to live for the next 15 days?
Finding the right YTT accommodation in Portugal can feel overwhelming, especially if you've never been to the Algarve before. Lagos offers a wide range of options — from budget-friendly shared apartments to serene beachside retreats — and the right choice depends on your budget, preferences, and what kind of experience you want.
This guide covers everything you need to know about where to stay during YTT in Lagos, including neighbourhoods to consider, types of accommodation, estimated costs, and insider tips from our past students.
Understanding Lagos as a Base for YTT
Lagos is a historic coastal town in the western Algarve, known for its cobblestone streets, dramatic cliffs, and stunning beaches. The town is compact and walkable — most key areas are within 20-30 minutes on foot from each other, which is perfect when you're spending long days in training.
The main areas to consider for Algarve YTT housing are:
- Lagos Old Town (Centro Histórico) — the heart of the city, with restaurants, shops, and nightlife
- Praia Dona Ana / Ponta da Piedade — beachside areas with stunning views, slightly quieter
- Marina de Lagos — modern area with apartments and restaurants, good for longer stays
- Meia Praia — a long stretch of beach on the eastern side, more suburban and relaxed
- The Residential Areas — quieter neighbourhoods a short walk from the centre
Option 1: Shared Apartments (Most Popular Among YTT Students)
Best for: Budget-conscious students, solo travellers who want community
Estimated cost: €400–€800 for 15 days (€27–€55/night)
Renting a shared apartment through Airbnb, Booking.com, or local Facebook groups is by far the most common choice among our YTT students. Lagos has a vibrant short-term rental market, particularly from April to October.
Pros: Significantly cheaper than hotels, access to a kitchen, more space to practise, option to split costs with other students.
Cons: Quality varies widely, can be noisy, you'll need to arrange your own meals.
Option 2: Private Apartments or Studios
Best for: Couples, students who need quiet study space, anyone who prioritises privacy
Estimated cost: €800–€1,500 for 15 days (€55–€100/night)
The best areas for private rentals are near the marina or in the quieter residential streets just outside the old town.
Option 3: Guesthouses and Boutique Hotels
Best for: Students who want a balance of comfort and convenience
Estimated cost: €1,200–€2,400 for 15 days (€80–€160/night)
Lagos has a wonderful selection of boutique guesthouses, many set in beautifully restored townhouses in the old town with breakfast included.
Option 4: Retreat Centres and Residential YTT Packages
Best for: Students who want an all-inclusive, immersive experience
Estimated cost: €1,500–€2,500 for the full 15 days including meals
While our programs at Yoga Teacher Training Portugal are open-format (you choose where to stay), we can connect you with partner retreat centres that offer residential options.

Remember that prices vary significantly by season. June through September are peak months. April, May, October, and November offer more moderate prices and still beautiful weather.
Proximity to the Training Studio
Our training space is located in central Lagos, within walking distance of most accommodation options. We recommend prioritising accommodation that is within a 20-minute walk of the studio. After a full day of training (typically 8am to 5pm with breaks), the last thing you'll want is a long commute.
Food and Meal Planning During YTT
Lagos has an excellent food scene that supports a yoga lifestyle. You'll find health-focused cafes, organic grocery stores, and fresh produce markets. If you're staying in a place with a kitchen, batch-cooking grains and legumes and keeping fresh fruit on hand will make your training week smoother.
Tips From Past Students
- Book early. Lagos is a popular destination and good accommodation fills up quickly
- Read reviews carefully. Look for mentions of quietness, WiFi reliability, and kitchen quality
- Consider location. Walking distance to the studio, grocery stores, and cafes is key
- Connect with your cohort. Our pre-training WhatsApp group is a great place to find roommates
- Pack light. Lagos has cobblestone streets that are hard with heavy luggage
